“Let your light shine…” Matt. 5:16
Dear St. Mary School Families,
Having enjoyed two weeks of vacation with family and friends, here I am on Sunday hoping to reach many of you with my first newsletter of the new year. This is the week when teachers start coming in to reset their classrooms with renewed energy for another year of sharing their love for teaching. Our entire team will begin the year on Thursday. The Teacher Work Days are filled with meetings, training sessions, and preparation for the first week of school.
This school year begins with a new pastor, Fr. Ryszard, and parochial vicar, Fr. Chesco. Both of these gentlemen have been priests at other parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh. You will get to meet them at our Orientation Nights.
Orientation PreK and Kindergarten – Monday, August 20th, 5:30, Cafeteria and Classrooms
Orientation Grades 1st – 8th – Tuesday, August 21st, 5-6:30, Basilica and Classrooms
Thanks to all of you for your patience during our first experience with online registration. It was not without its challenges, but promises to be easier now that you are all entered into the system.
If you have not completed the registration procedure, your child has not been placed on any classroom lists. We need to make sure that we have the correct amount of materials waiting for your child as we start school. The teachers will be accounting for all those registered as of Thursday.
New Faculty Team Members
I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Karen Dries is joining us as the PreK3 teacher. Mrs. Dries is coming to us from St. Michael School in Cary. She has many years of experience in PreK and elementary grades. She, Ms. Amy, and Ms. Caroline are going to create a strong PreK team.
I am also pleased to announce that Mr. Daniel White will be joining us as a teacher of elementary music and band. Mr. White has spent his entire career in upstate New York teaching music. He will be joining Dr. Spencer and Mr. Williams to complete our Music faculty.
I am still interviewing for an Art teacher. God will send us a talented person soon.
All of our parents are members of Home and School. During my two summer Sunday newsletters, I asked for volunteers to serve as officers this year. Each week I heard from wonderful parents offering their service. I am still in need of two parents to co-chair our Fall Festival which will take place at the end of October. As I mentioned before, two former chairs are still here at St. Mary and they would be more than happy to share their experience with whoever contacts me this week to help us. This event is always such a great community builder for our families, new and old. Please email me if you think you can help.
Calling all runners! Volunteer Assistant Coach, Cross-Country needed! Please contact Mr. Tony Viollis, Athletic Director (email@example.com.
Several weeks ago, Fr. Ryszard called for a Parish Council Meeting of which I am a member. The purpose of the meeting was to decide the adjusted hours/location of the Sr. Isaac Outreach Center. It was decided that the center would be open Monday through Thursday, 9-12. Security will be hired to work 8:30-12:30 each day, and more supervisory staff will be assigned. This will begin after Labor Day. Fr. Ryszard stated that this will be the present plan which will be re-evaluated at the end of the first semester.
Schoolbelles is our official school uniform company. You can order uniforms online by using the link on our school website. I have contacted them to remove shoe preferences which are incorrect. We do not include white Sperry’s. Please follow the choices located in our present Parent Handbook posted on our website.
Our Gently Used Uniform Closet will not be available this Thursday and Friday due to Faculty Meetings. It will be open during the Orientation Nights.
Thank you for choosing St. Mary Catholic School for your child’s education. We are definitely offering a 21st century education in our historical buildings. Before I close, I want to share some kind words from a former parent whom I had the pleasure to see last week.
“It was a real treat running into you the other day! St. Mary School and its wonderful group of teachers had been on my mind in recent days, so it was indeed a happy coincidence. We have new neighbors, with a new baby, and the parents are already thinking about school options.
I explained to my neighbors that the teachers at St. Mary School are seasoned, intuitive, and kind professionals. Students also have so many excellent opportunities from art and music to honing their writing and speaking skills through ongoing activities such as geography and spelling bees, plus the science fair and Science Olympiad. At St. Mary, students receive what has become so rare in schools these days: guidance, time and attention. The icing on the cake is the connection that the school fosters with the community due to its partnership with the parish. Our sons learned the importance of “giving back” and that message has stuck with our now, young adults. Finally, they each made lifelong friends there, which as you know, is priceless.”
