Dear St. Mary School Families,
On this beautiful autumn morning, our school family joined together for Mass. The liturgy was planned by Mrs. Connaughton and our 3rd grade class. Taking part in the liturgy planning and having public speaking opportunities will serve them well as they go on to high school and college. It is a wonderful opportunity for our school family to be together in worship of our Lord in the beautiful Basilica. I have received notes from visitors to our Friday morning Masses telling how fulfilled they were by being with our very reverent students who participate so fully in the celebration.
Thank you to all for having your children here on time during testing days. Tests will now be sent off to Riverside and we hope to have results as early as next month.
Title I Resource – Beginning this coming Tuesday, Mrs. Nicole Aiken will be our new resource teacher. Mrs. Aiken is a former St.MarySchool elementary teacher who has a NC teaching license for K-6 elementary. She will begin supporting students next Wednesday. Welcome back, Mrs. Aiken!
Cross Country Team – Yesterday our Cross Country Team, coached by Dr. Allen and Mrs. Huestis, competed against several larger schools than ours. I am proud to report that our girls placed 3rd and our boys placed 2nd! Go Falcons!
Volleyball – Our girls’ volleyball team will compete in their 1st playoff game at home on this Tuesday, Oct. 13th. Please help us fill the stands with Falcon supporters! Enjoy our new concession stand offerings. Our Booster Club members worked very hard this summer to make multiple improvements up there.
Update on Gym Floor Project – For those families who have just joined our school, we have been fundraising for the past 2+ years to replace our original, vintage gym floor. Within the last 2 weeks, Mr. Viollis(Athletic Director), Mrs. Oden(H.S.A. president), Mr. Kennedy(Booster Club president), Ms. Marren (Business Mgr.), Mr. Terry Smith (Church and School Accountant), and I met. Figures have been gathered from all fundraisers and donations designated for this project. With donations from H.S.A., Booster Club, Fencing Club, Friends of Tileston, and our parish, we are so near our goal that we can see this project beginning soon. The next step is going to be to contact the bidders to hopefully meet our cash amount. There is a fine team of volunteer architects, builders, and engineers working to make this happen. I am so grateful to this magnificent team of professionals. We will keep you updated on any news.
