“Let your light shine…” Matt. 5:16
Dear St. Mary School Families,
Bishop Burbidge – He will not be coming to the Basilica this Saturday evening. Fr. Bob learned that he is scheduled to be at another location.
Field Trips – This week the kindergarten headed for the farm. The 2nd and 6th grade buddies walked to an art gallery on Front Street for a very special exhibit combining art and science. Last week, our 8th graders and Mr. McFarlane enjoyed a bonding day at the Ropes Course.
Sr. Isaac – Back in August we learned that Sr. Isaac is retiring from her ministry here. She has served thousands of people at the St. Mary Social Ministry since the 1980’s, teaching all of us the importance of service to others. Our parish will have a reception in the Upper Room on Sunday, Dec. 4th, 3-6 p.m. to thank Sr. Isaac and Sr. Alice before they move to the mother house in Rhinebeck, NY.
As a thank you to Sr. Isaac and the Sisters of St. Ursula for their service at St. Mary, we are asking for monetary donations from the faculty, staff, and families of our school. Each year Sr. Isaac travels north to plant the garden in Rhinebeck. She said that they need a new tree by their chapel since an old tree needed to be removed. She will use our donations to replace the tree and for perennials to be planted in the new spring garden. Please send in your donations and greetings which will be given to her on Friday, Dec. 2nd. If you choose to write a check, please make it payable to St. Mary School and then the school will write a check to Sr. Isaac.
Book Fair and Spaghetti Supper – Thanks to all who came out this week to purchase books and enjoy supper together. The 8th grade class served us with the best of manners and they thank you for your support as they raised $809 toward their end of year trip.
Hospice Trees at the Aquarium – This year a donor has offered a tree to be decorated by St. Mary School. Mrs. Daley and Mrs. Watts spent the day decorating with many ornaments made by some of our younger students. Enjoy a day at the Ft. Fisher Aquarium and check out our tree.
Parent Conferences – Today our teachers will be sharing your children’s progress during the first quarter. In grades 2-8, you will receive the results of the fall Iowa testing. We just received the results and will be analyzing them to plan some of the teaching goals for the remainder of the year.
You will also receive a printed copy of the Parent/Student Handbook. I believe this hard copy will provide an easy resource for you. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Puckett for printing them for us.
Science Lab – This wonderful new addition to our school is almost complete. Mrs. Brown will soon begin her move and we’ll start having classes there when we return from Christmas break. We are so grateful to our donors who have seen the importance of this learning space.
