Dear St. Mary School Families,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I am away from school at the Diocesan Principals’ Retreat, but wanted to at least send a short version of my weekly email.
Gardens of Airlie Assemblies – On Tuesday, Dr. Anne Russell gave 2 assemblies to our students. Dr. Russell is the author of Gardens of Airlie. Her ancestor, Richard Bradley, had a summer home called Edge Hill, part of what is now Airlie Gardens. After college, she was a staff writer for the Raleigh News and Observer and Arts Director for the City of Raleigh. She was also a faculty member at Barton College, UNC- Pembroke, and UNC-W. She has written adult novels, plays, documentaries, poems, and another children’s book, Seabiscuit, Wild Pony of the Outer Banks. We hope that she inspired many young writers. Her latest book is available at the Airlie Gardens gift shop. Thanks to Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Suzanne Smith for organizing this event for us.
Boys’ Tennis Team – Our boys are just beginning their season and are coached by Mrs. Milagros Moore. They had a match on Wednesday afternoon against Cape Fear Academy and won! Congratulations to our Falcon players! Check out our Falcon Facebook Page for pictures.
Dancing with the Wilmington Stars – A mailer is being sent to all school families. We hope that you will take part in one of the ways listed. I hope that you will be joining us for this wonderful event. It’s our only fundraiser this year!
Looking ahead –

We offer our prayers and condolences to Mrs. Karen Brown (7th homeroom, Science and Math teacher) and her family as her dad passed away on Tuesday.
