David White a recent graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and St. Mary’s alumni has been accepted into the prestigious Peace Corps International Program at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine to study epidemiology.

Epidemiology is the study of disease patterns in large scale populations. David attributes his fascination with this field from his high school senior project which he conducted with the help of: Sr. Isaac, Suzanne Smith, Kevin Murphy, and many St. Mary students.

For his senior project David conducted research on the relationship between diabetes and the homeless population; as well as, grew an organic vegetable garden for the Tileston Outreach clinic with the help of Suzanne Smith’s second grade class and Kevin Murphy’s fifth grade class. David is looking forward to applying his values and work ethic established during his time at St. Mary through his course work at Tulane next semester, his future PeaceCorps deployment, and his goals of becoming an epidemiologist at the Center for Disease Control.
