Thank you for visiting the St.
Mary Catholic School website. We are proud to be part of
the history of the oldest Catholic school in North
Carolina which will celebrate 142 years of continuous
Catholic education in the city of Wilmington. Our school is located in the beautiful historic district
several blocks from the Cape Fear River. You can read
about the school’s rich history by visiting another page
of this site.
Our school family has the privilege of being able to
attend Mass every Friday morning in the historic St.
Mary Shrine. Our Catholic faith is taught in classes and
is lived out through many outreach projects during the
school year. We strive to develop and share our gifts to
glorify our Father.
The mission of St. Mary School is to ensure learning for
all our children within the framework of Catholic
Christian values. Our instructional programs follow the
State of North Carolina Curriculum as well as that of
the Diocese of Raleigh. We offer two high school credit
courses, Algebra I and Geometry. Our students
consistently score well on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills
and go on to find success in high school and higher
education. The core subjects are enhanced by an
enriching arts program consisting of choir, two levels
of band, Suzuki violin and visual arts, along with
Spanish, physical education and technology. St. Mary
School is accredited by SACS-CASI which encourages
continuous school improvement.
Our students and teachers have the advantage of walking
to so many interesting sites for field trips, such as
the Cape Fear Museum, Historic Latimer House, the main
Fire Station, Thalian Hall, City Hall, and the
Children’s Museum, just to name a few. We can even walk
to a water taxi which takes us across the river to the
U.S.S. North Carolina. Occasionally, our students have
taken the free trolley to the river to tour historic
ships docked in our fair city.
The Falcon sports program includes P.E. and Health
classes as well as team sports: volleyball, tennis,
soccer, basketball, and lacrosse.
We offer an After School Program which operates 3-6 p.m.
on each full day of school as well as on some of the
half days. There is an additional fee charged for this
service.
The Falcons’ Nest Early Childhood Program operates on
all school days, 8:15-12 in our lower school building.
This allows our families an opportunity to offer their
children the St. Mary educational experience from the
age of 3 years.
The St. Mary Faculty, Staff, and I are dedicated to
carrying out the threefold mission of Catholic education
which is to spread the message of God, build community,
and teach service while providing an excellent academic
program.
Blessings,
Mrs. Joyce Price
Principal
