On Wednesday afternoon, first graders invited fifth-grade buddies to do pumpkin science labs. Centers were set up where together they measured pumpkin’s height, width, and weight (in grams). Pumpkin lines were estimated and then counted. In addition, students immersed pumpkins into water to find if their pumpkins sank or floated. Finally, each buddy pair completed a thinking map of adjectives describing their pumpkin. All in all, both grades enjoyed learning about prediction and measurement. They experienced how scientists work.
